Goal

DOG DAYS NYC is a social sculpture, designed by artist Ryan Brown in collaboration with Button Studios, that blurs the boundaries between art, everyday life, and social interaction.

Over the coming months, dozens of canvas dogs will be placed all across the City of New York- on sidewalks, parks and subways. These objects depict sleeping dogs, inspired by those found on the streets of Lima, Peru, as well as the recurring portrayal of the perpetual underdog in Western film and literature—figures embodying the cast aside and excluded. The dogs serve as surrogates for the hundreds of thousands of people displaced by poverty, political persecution, and the failures of a capitalist system.

DOG DAYS NYC is committed to providing a direct, unmediated art experience to the public, aiming to expand art’s role and reach in society while pushing back against a contemporary art market that ultimately stifles freedom of expression and creative liberty.
